THE INSOMNIA CASE – The Strategy of Amplifying
Fall asleep by trying to stay awake.
If you struggle to fall asleep, it could be time for more of an Omdenken approach. A few years ago, researchers from the University of Glasgow took two groups of insomniacs and studied their sleep for an extended period of time.
The participants in the study were asked to do something odd. After climbing into bed, they were asked to stay awake, as opposed to trying to fall asleep. They weren’t allowed to watch TV or use a computer, but had to lie there with their eyes open.
As the study shows, trying to stay awake actually makes us tired. The participants who were asked to keep their eyes open fell asleep more quickly than the other group.
So if you’re struggling to fall asleep, simply do what you do well: try staying awake. The Strategy of Amplifying!
